Rod Christian ( pictured left ) is a well-known composer, musician and music specialist in Perth Western Australia.
Rod’s qualifications include a Diploma of Music Teaching and a Bachelor of Music Education.
His career in music spans almost 40 years where he has been Head of Music at three major metropolitan secondary schools, including Rossmoyne Senior High 1979-1988, Corpus Christi College 1989-2001 and Sacred Heart College Sorrento 2002-2007. In 2009, Rod was appointed assistant head music teacher at Sacred Heart after a year working on his musical interests overseas.
Rod has written and recorded numerous songs, jingles and music for television documentaries. He has also musically directed many school and professional productions throughout Australia.
In 1989, Rod set about writing a musical. This idea just kept on developing and CRUISIN’ is now an international success story. The 1950’s style musical has been produced in 27 schools throughout Australia, 4 in New Zealand , 4 in the UK and another 2 in Canada. Rod has also formed a slick choir "The Sensations" featuring past students from Sacred Heart College. This choir performs re-arranged works from all genres of music as well as original compositions.
They recently performed before 5000 delegates at The Interhash Conference at Gloucester Park in Perth Western Australia. Rod continues to market Cruisin’ through his agents David Spicer Productions in Sydney and David Waters of Stagescripts UK. He is recording, arranging and performing music for a variety of solo artists and groups including the Born To Sing Choir under the Direction of Martin Meader. Rod is a member of a number of musical groups, namely Good Company, on keyboards, Pure Joi lead guitar/vocals, Du Monde, a jazz guitar duo, Taxi, as bass guitarist and, more recently, keyboards with Gerry and the The Atrix. Currently working with Zalia Joi on a project for the theatre “Dating Death”which premieres on 30th October.
