Matt Byrne has been a theatre critic, Arts writer, producer, director, designer, publicist, actor and playwright for the past 41 years, and he also takes the bookings!

He has worked professionally in theatre restaurant at the Hotel Enfield, taken two of his Fringe shows to the Edinburgh Fringe and toured four of his Fringe shows to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Matt has worked with a number of Adelaide companies from Northern Light - whom he began with in 1978 - to the Hills, the Elizabeth Rep, the Salisbury Theatre Company, Burnside Players, the John Edmund Theatre and La Mama with the legendary Bruno Knez. He co-founded the Oasis Theatre Company in 1981 and his own company Matt Byrne Media in 1991.

He has covered the Adelaide Arts scene including every Fringe and Festival since 1984, was The News Arts Editor, TV Week Bureau Chief and has been the Sunday Mail Theatre Critic and Arts Writer for 18 years.

Matt has produced, directed, written and often appeared in three shows a year since 1996 at nearly every theatre around Adelaide including Her Majestys and the Festival Theatre.

Matt has written a show for every Fringe since his footy comedy Barrackers in 2002, and celebrated 22 years of Fringe fun at Maxims Wine Bar next year with his latest outrage Married At First Fight.

His award-winning productions include Evita and Bouncers and his Curtain Call Award winning shows include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Driving Miss Daisy, Hairspray and Avenue Q.

Matt presents Australian and SA Premieres because too many big shows have passed Adelaide by and he loves seeing so many new musicals hitting the local stage.

His shows like Hott Property satirise the world we live in and make you wonder what happened to the Great Australian Dream of owning your own home!
