Bryce Hallett is a respected journalist and writer based in Sydney. He is a former Arts Editor and arts writer at the Sydney Morning Herald (1998-2012). He was the Herald's chief theatre critic for more than a decade and was arts writer at The Australian from 1990 to 1998. He has written extensively about theatre, opera, musical theatre.
In 2010, Bryce co-wrote the musical play Freeway - The Chet Baker Journey, performed by singer-actor Tim Draxl. The show has been performed at the Sydney Opera House, the Brisbane Festival, Hayes Theatre Co and the Melbourne International Arts Festival. In 2014, Bryce wrote the acclaimed rock drama Rolling Thunder Vietnam.
Bryce conceived and wrote the cabaret show, Love is a Drag, with Tim Draxl, premiering in July 2019 at the inaugural Sydney Cabaret Festival. Bryce is the author of Baroque Passion – Australian Brandenburg Orchestra 30 Years, a book capturing the pioneering spirit and personality of one of Australia’s great cultural success stories.
Rolling Thunder Vietnam was later adapted for North American audiences. The story was told from an American perspective while including references to Australia. This version of the show, simply titled Rolling Thunder, made its US premiere in New York at New World Stages in July 2025. It was met with standing ovations at every performance, as well as overwhelming support from US veterans.
